1.
Before going to bed, it is encouraged in Islam to begin by performing wudu (ablution). This act of purification not only cleanses the body but also prepares the soul to rest in a state of cleanliness and remembrance of Allah.
2.
After making wudu, it is good practice to tidy up and neatly arrange the bed. This reflects cleanliness and discipline, which are important values in Islam. A clean and neat sleeping area helps promote a peaceful and comfortable night’s sleep.
3.
Next, one should recite a bedtime du’a (prayer). This prayer is a way to remember Allah and seek protection throughout the night. It helps calm the heart and mind, allowing for restful and secure sleep.
4.
Before closing the eyes, it’s important to make an intention (niyyah) to sleep with the purpose of resting the body in order to worship and be productive the next day. Having the right intention turns even sleep into an act of worship.
5.
Then, one should recite Ayat al-Kursi, a powerful verse from the Qur’an known for its protection and blessings. It’s also recommended to read three short Surahs: Al-Ikhlas, Al-Falaq, and An-Nas. These chapters offer spiritual protection from harm and evil.
6.
Lastly, it is Sunnah to lie down on the right side while sleeping. This position is recommended by the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and is believed to be the best posture for a healthy and blessed sleep.
